Gross Medicine

This unit focuses on the concept of Interdependence as it relates to the relationship between humans and insects. Pollination and the balance of ecosystems are examined. 

 

 

Contagion

This unit focuses on the social responsibility that comes along with decisions related to public health, particularly with regards to contagious diseases.

 

 

It's a Dog's Life

In this unit, students  delve into the history of the canine breed and explore changes throughout the years with the focus of how culture has shaped the adaptation of this breed.

 

Reverse Engineering

This is a unit of study that focuses on the content area, reverse engineering, and the essential understanding of how interactions affect systems.  

 

Laws of Motion

This unit was designed to aid students in discovering Sir Isaac Newton’s three laws of motion and the impact they have on our lives every day.

 

Weird Science

Students explore the scientific process through experiments that demonstrate change.

 

Mission 2025

In this unit  students research, design, and build a solar powered car that would be a prototype for the highways of 2025.

 

Survival of the Fittest

Students deepen their knowledge of animal adaptations by exploring biomes to help them understand the necessity of specific adaptations based on environment. Students also learn about food webs as they make considerations about the requirements for survival.

 

Super Sleuths

Students learn the key components in becoming a successful detective: Code of Ethics, fingerprints, handwriting, reconstructing evidence, observations, and perspective are all explored.

Rocket Power

This unit explores the concept of power. Students learn that Power is something that can be changed both positively and negatively, especially when creating rockets!

Botany Bliss

This unit focuses on how the form of a plant facilitates its function. For example: How does the structure of the flower allow for the function of pollination and fertilization?

​

Golden Bridges

This unit explores how structure influences strength. A variety of engineering concepts are explored. 

​

Innovative Engineers

Students explore the concept of innovation while learning and utilizing content across various disciplines. 

​

Scrappton

Students learn about the Engineering Design Process in this hands-on, creative, problem solving unit.

​

Engineering Around the World

This unit explores how engineering concepts can be used to examine community needs.

 

Think Like a Scientist

Students utilize the scientific method to conduct experiments like a real scientist.

Poke'mon Go!

Students create the most resilient, original Poke'mon to develop an understanding of how "Evolution Influences Survival"

Water Heroes Wanted!

Students become experts in water quality through filtration.  

​

Soccer! What's it All About?

This unit focuses on knowledge of force and motion as it relates to playing soccer.

Nurturing Neurons

This unit drills deeply into the nervous system and its connectedness to the human body. 

​

We All Scream For Ice Cream!

Students research confections, specifically ice cream, and create an original ice cream flavor.

Get Jiggy with Geocache: Not All Who Wander Are Lost

This unit uses STEM to support students' investigation of navigation and its impact on GPS technology.

Forensic Detective: Who Did It?

Students engage in hands-on exploration of all things forensic science.

​

Rollercoaster Craze

Students work like an engineer to investigate the workings of a roller coaster.

Fibonacci Fun: Spirals in Nature

This unit examines Fibonacci and its connection to patterns found in nature.

Earth Explorers

Students explore how technology might assist human's adaptation to living on the moon.

In this unit, students investigate crime scenes to understand how "Investigation Encourages Collaboration".

Physics Jedi

 Students examine "the force" to investigate Newton's Laws.

Jurassic Spark

In this unit, students investigate evolution of dinosaurs through Darwin's natural selection.

Bring Home the Biome

In this unit, students investigate various ecosystems and the human impact on these systems.

Crazy Catapults

Students examine basic aspects of physics and energy transfer via hands on learning.

​

CSI Durham

Students complete several different samples of evidence, such as blood

typing, hair and fiber analysis, and fingerprints.

 

Racing Rollercoasters

Students analyze and problem-solve the workings of roller coasters while working collaboratively to prove that "Systems Manipulate Movement". 

​

Buggin' Out!

Students take to the outdoors to investigate the impact of insects on modern culture.

 

Are You Sense-Tive?

In this unit, students conduct experiments that "trick" the five senses.

 
How to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse:  A Study in Microbial Warfare

Students assume the role of epidemiologists and create a guide for survival in the event of germ warfare.

Gradual Transition Into Darkness

During this unit, students become diagnosticians as they investigate the loss of sight.

So You Wanna' Be a Martian

During this unit, students explore the challenges and possibilities of living on Mars.

Water, Water Everywhere! A Unit on Sustainability

This unit focuses on the global water crisis and students design a low-cost water filter.

Ancestry Dot What?

Students investigate genealogy as a system.

Ferris Wheel Fun!

This unit utilizes LEGOS and LEGO WeDo Software to explore force and motion.  

​

Who Did It?

The unit explores forensic science to answer the question, "How does perseverance shape problem solving?"

DNA, Mutants, and Super Heroes

In this unit, students explore DNA  to learn how genetic modification can alter DNA.

​

Discovering Ethics

Students explore scientists' ethical dilemmas and the principles that govern their decisions.

​

Sweet, Sweet Science

In this unit, students investigate cooking science to understand how "Innovation Drives Change".
